Sammy Gyamfi, GoldBod CEO, Sues Afia Schwarzenegger for GH₵10 Million in Defamation Case

Samuel Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has filed a GH₵10 million defamation lawsuit against media personality Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, popularly known as Afia Schwarzenegger.
According to a Statement of Claim filed at the Accra High Court by Sustineri Attorneys PRUC, Gyamfi is seeking the following reliefs:
- A declaration that the TikTok video made by Afia Schwarzenegger is defamatory.
- General and exemplary damages amounting to GH₵10 million.
- A permanent injunction to prevent her from making further similar publications.
- A public retraction and apology, to be published on both the front and back pages of the Daily Graphic for three consecutive editions, as well as across all platforms where the original content appeared.
- Legal costs, including counsel fees .
Allegations Laid Out in Court
In a viral TikTok video, Afia Schwarzenegger alleged—in Asante Twi, later translated into English for the court—that Gyamfi:
- Was buying cars for female students at the University of Ghana (Legon),
- Maintained a “list” of youngsters he was reportedly supporting financially,
- That his wife’s younger sister had inexplicably purchased a house in the United States .
Afia’s exact words, as submitted in court, included:
“Tell Sammy Gyamfi’s wife that I am greeting her. Her husband is still buying cars for girls in Legon… I am holding the list… Even his wife’s younger sister has bought a house in the US.”
Plaintiff’s Response
Gyamfi’s legal team asserts these statements are false, malicious, and designed to tarnish his reputation as a public figure and political actor . He also denies any extramarital affairs or romantic involvement with university students, adamantly refuting claims of purchasing cars for girlfriends or funding property acquisitions in the U.S.
In court papers, he notes that:
- There’s no record of his wife financing property abroad; he further states, “his wife does not even have any sister called ‘Vida’ as published by the Defendant,” and that due diligence would have revealed this inconsistency .
- Since the video’s release, he has faced an influx of embarrassing phone calls and probing questions from officials, party colleagues, friends, and other associates—locally and internationally .
Next Steps
Court documents indicate that Afia Schwarzenegger has acknowledged receipt of the lawsuit and does not intend to contest it. However, she faces an 8-day deadline from date of filing to file a formal defense .
