Haruna Iddrisu Signs MOUs with Foreign Firms to Support Establishment of Public Universities in Jasikan and Kintampo

In a significant step toward improving access to higher education and accelerating regional development, leading politician and education advocate Haruna Iddrisu has announced the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to support the establishment of two new public universities in Jasikan and Kintampo.
According to a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Mr. Iddrisu signed the MOUs with Gharably Integrated Engineering Company (GEICO) from Egypt and CMS Group from Morocco. The two firms expressed their readiness to partner with the Ministry of Education in realizing the government’s vision of setting up the institutions in the Oti and Bono East regions, respectively.
He described the initiative as a “transformative step toward inclusive national development,” highlighting that the universities will help bridge the educational gap and address critical skills shortages in the two regions.

The announcement comes amid growing calls for equitable distribution of tertiary education resources across Ghana, especially in underserved regions.
The establishment of public universities in Jasikan and Kintampo is expected to create opportunities for thousands of young Ghanaians and contribute to economic growth by producing skilled graduates tailored to local and national development needs.
