Kadikeje: A New Day Breaks with a Drill Anthem from Ghana’s Oti Region

A new anthem is set to rise from the heart of Ghana’s Oti Region, carrying with it a wave of hope, culture, and youthful inspiration. Titled “Kadikeje” — a Lelemi word meaning “a new day” or “daybreak” — the single is officially released today, June 25, 2025, coinciding with the birthday of Ghanaian creative Ohene Aces, one of the visionaries behind the project.

This song isn’t just another entry into the growing wave of African drill music. It is a deeply personal and culturally grounded piece that taps into childhood memories and communal values, transforming a grandmother’s morning prayer into a powerful hiphop/drill anthem. At the heart of “Kadikeje” is the phrase:

“Kadikeje bu nɔnɔ ati nu fa bɛbi konyana oh”

(“It’s a new day, Father, have mercy on your children.”)

This prayer, once a whispered routine in the early hours, now echoes through the pulsating production of Diamond Beats, layered with traditional drum sounds — conka, dondo, and shakers — that reflect the rich musical heritage of the Oti Region.

“Kadikeje” brings together three rising artists from Jasikan — OtiRokk, Qwaku Messiah, and Quojo B — whose voices carry the hopes and struggles of a generation. Together, they channel their message to the youth: hustle with faith, stay away from crime, and trust in divine timing. In a society where many young people feel left behind, this song offers an alternative narrative rooted in perseverance and purpose.

“This is not just music; it’s a message to our brothers and sisters. No matter how tough life gets, don’t give up or take the wrong path. Your blessing will come if you keep going,” one of the artists shared during the song’s pre-release press call.
