Tension at Balakina Sala Concert as Newton Light Reacts to Technical Glitch on Stage

Empire Villa in Jasikan was lit up with music, lights, and excitement during the Balakina Sala Concert.
The 2025 Balakina Sala Concert, held at Empire Villa in Jasikan, was an unforgettable celebration of music, culture, and unity, drawing one of the largest crowds in the Oti Region during the Eid holidays. This year’s fourth edition featured a strong lineup of talented performers including Rescuebwoy, Bawa Phlow, RMG Xtimate, Kophy Rapcha, and top DJs such as DJ Torsky, DJ Khris Kay, and DJ Skyface. Hypemen MC Agbatey and MC Frisky Vybz kept the energy alive throughout the night.
With quality lighting, crisp sound, and a beautifully arranged stage, the night was set for greatness — until a brief moment of tension broke the momentum.
As the crowd anticipated back-to-back performances from Newton Light and Qwaku Messaih, a minor delay occurred due to a need to replace microphone batteries. While fans were kept entertained by jam sessions and hype from the MCs, Newton eventually hit the stage and thrilled the audience with his first song.
However, just as he prepared to move into his second performance, the microphone abruptly stopped working. Frustrated, Newton paused the performance and shared his displeasure on stage.
He further urged organizers to take events in the Oti Region more seriously when it comes to technical readiness and artist support. His reaction left the crowd quiet, with most unsure how to respond.
The organizing team responded quickly by adjusting the sound setup, allowing Qwaku Messaih to mount the stage. His performance brought the energy back up and helped refocus the event’s mood, drawing cheers and applause from the fans.
Following the incident, organizers of the Balakina Sala Concert issued a public apology for any inconvenience caused during the event. They acknowledged the technical challenge and promised to improve upon future editions to avoid similar occurrences.
“We sincerely apologize for any issues that affected the flow of the event and promise to work harder on future editions. We also want to say a big thank you to everyone who turned out and made the 4th edition of Balakina Sala Concert colourful and memorable.”
Despite the minor setback, the Balakina Sala Concert remains one of the most impactful entertainment events in Jasikan. The crowd, the talent, and the production all reflected the potential of local entertainment in the region. This year’s edition set a high bar, and the organizers have taken steps to ensure continuous growth and professionalism in the years to come.
