Ghana’s Music Scene Booms as Spotify Unveils Global Impact List

Ghana’s music industry is making waves like never before, driven by a new generation of artists propelling the country’s sound onto the global stage.

Spotify has released Ghana’s Global Impact List, highlighting the top tracks from the country with the greatest international reach over the past year. This new wave of musicians isn’t just creating music—they’re redefining the industry and amplifying Ghana’s cultural influence worldwide.

Leading this movement are Lasmid, Olivetheboy, King Paluta, MOLIY, Kweku Smoke, Kojo Blak, and Black Sherif.

Several of their songs have become major exports, including Lasmid’s “Puul,” Olivetheboy’s “Asylum,” and Kojo Blak’s “Gear.” King Paluta’s “Aseda” and “Makoma” blend modern highlife and Afrobeats, offering a fresh twist on Ghana’s signature sound. MOLIY’s “Risk,” featuring Shekhinah, also earned a spot on the list.

Black Sherif, widely regarded as the “voice of the youth,” continues to dominate with tracks like “January 9th,” “Kilimanjaro” (featuring Tiwa Savage & Young Jonn), and “Shut Up.” His unique mix of highlife, drill, and personal storytelling has cemented his place as one of Ghana’s most consistent global exports.

Meanwhile, Amaarae stands out with multiple songs on the list. Her ability to blend genres has made her a global star. “In The Night,” her collaboration with Childish Gambino and Jorja Smith, tops the list as the most exported Ghanaian track, showcasing her widespread appeal.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, praised Ghana’s growing influence, saying:

“African music is taking centre stage globally, with Ghana at its core. We’re thrilled to see Ghanaian music becoming a hub of creativity that produces hits resonating worldwide. Ghanaian artists are showcasing their unique talent, and the world is loving it. We’re proud to amplify their voices and ensure their music reaches audiences everywhere.”
